Infant Program

Our infant program is offered year-round and is the perfect place for all babies 2 months – 2 years of age. Because we believe that infants need a substantial amount of exclusive attention, we only offer 8 full-time enrollment spots, along with several part time spots. We are always accepting applications and have an active waitlist once all spots are filled. The infant center is located in our private glassed-in classroom to ensure sanitation and safety as the babies learn to crawl and walk around.

Toddler Program

Storybook is proud to offer a year-round Toddler program! Within this program your child will learn basic cognitive and social skills while enjoying a fun filled curriculum full of color and texture. We believe that learning must come with fun in order to keep the children interested.  Storybook Schoolhouse encourages the staff members to enjoy the activities just as much as the children that way we maintain a fun and productive atmosphere for your children to feel comfortable to ask questions and learn through observation. The preschool is licensed for 65 children with a state regulated ratio of one teacher for every 12 children. However, our two-year old students receive additional help, and love with trained teacher aids.

Preschool Program

Preparing your child for kindergarten is our number one goal in our Preschool Program. The curriculum for this program is literature based in order to enhance and promote cognitive development. A variety of art forms are offered, such as cooking, painting, molding,  gardening, dramatic play and much more!  Each year in May Storybook Schoolhouse prepares a graduation ceremony in which the preschoolers will walk with their fellow students to receive a certificate of completion. This ceremony comes complete with a cap and gown and is an open invitation for the entire family!  We have found through years of experience that the more direct involvement both the child and family have with our school, the higher the child’s success rate is as they enter grade school.

School Age | Before / After School Care

Our school-aged component is licensed for 75 with a state mandated ratio of 1:14. This ratio ensures that your child has proper supervision at all times. The after-school program operates 12 months of the year with a lively calendar of events occurring each month. The students enjoy staging plays for parents and friends, dancing, and a large variety of field trips to various locations around the Chico community. A quiet space and help with homework is provided for all children arriving in the afternoon, as well as a healthy snack to keep the mind at work. During the summer we offer an exciting calendar of events and field trips.  Each spring the preschool and school-aged children plant a flower and vegetable garden which they enjoy as the garden progresses.

F.A.Q.

What types of activities do you offer for your children?

We provide age-appropriate activities, both indoors and outdoors, to stimulate the minds of our children, and to promote motor and social skill development. We use paints, glitter, play dough, glue, chalk, books, sensory tables with beans, rice, water, snow, dirt, noodles and more. Our children stay very busy throughout the day.

Do you welcome parent involvement? Can I stop by unannounced?

The answer to both is a resounding, “YES!” Our school is a community that embraces the whole family. If you’d like to get an inside look at your child at play or in the classroom, you are more than welcome to stop by anytime. We also encourage parents to come in and talk about their careers, help with projects at home that need to be completed and returned, lending objects of units of study and anything else that will help get parents involved.

What if someone other than my spouse/partner or me has to pick up my child?

In order to protect your child, we require that you provide the names of any individual who has permission to pick up your child. We require advance notice from you when someone other than a family member will be picking up your child and will check identification. If we have any questions or concerns, we ask that you are available via cell phone to provide confirmation.

What will my child be learning in your preschool?

We introduce the fundamentals of Arithmetic, Art, Reading, Writing, Music, and Science, Math, Cooking and other fun activities that are all theme based.

What is your policy regarding sick children?

In order to keep our children, their families and our staff as healthy as possible, we require that any child with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or contagious disease be kept at home.

Do you provide meals and snacks?

Yes! In fact, we maintain a commercial kitchen and a full-time chef so that we can prepare and serve nutritious, home-cooked meals and snacks for children.   Parents are welcomed to provide snacks and lunch for their child if they'd prefer.

What Our Families are Saying

Madison G.

My son has been attending storybook schoolhouse for over a year. Storybook schoolhouse has been amazing in the following ways: the owners were very friendly, welcoming, and addressed any questions or concerns I had about my young son starting a new daycare. The best part about storybook schoolhouse, besides the amazing staff, building, and activities, is the fact that they are also an after-school program. My son attends the elementary school across the street, storybook schoolhouse picks up my son and walks him back to their daycare. It is the single-handedly most convenient thing in our lives! I don't know what I would do without storybook schoolhouse. My son loves Miss heather, loves bacon and pancake fridays, and all of the arts and crafts that he brings home brings joy into our hearts.

They even set up a comic book station to support my son's love of comics!

We started with story book this year and we love it! My daughter who is in pre school loves it, she has fun and does new activities and arts and crafts daily. They feed the kids breakfast lunch and snacks and it all seems to be healthy options. We love Mrs.Heather and Mr.Gary, they are both so great with the kids. They allow early drops off so we can get to work and we pick up around 5. It's a wonderful preschool with great staff!

Our family loves storybook! Every day our kids are genuinely excited to go to school and I am genuinely excited to see their amazing staff of teachers. My spouse and I sometimes argue about how picks up the kids from school because we love seeing our little ones in their element interacting with their friends, and we love to hear about their days from their teachers. There are some days when our preschooler is happy to see us, but doesn't want to go home yet because they are having so much fun! It is clear that the teachers truly care about the kids & babies and it shows on their happy little faces. They serve healthy and delicious foods, usually I want to stay for breakfast because it looks and smells so amazing! The kids always have fresh fruit on every plate I've seen! Also, they make the most amazing fresh bread every Friday and the parents can bring some home!

Our three-year-old has been at storybook for about a year and a half now. The staff has always shown genuine affection and caring for our child. They communicate well and try to us keep abreast of ongoings in the classroom. I recommend them highly.

Our kids have been going to Storybook Schoolhouse for 4 years now and we absolutely adore Ms. Danae and all of the SBSH teachers.  From day one they have treated our kids like their kids.  As soon as we walk in they give our kids hugs and feed them healthy delicious meals.  There is a special bond with the kids in their class as well.  They hug each other "hello" and "good-bye" or give each other shout outs.  Our kids now attend Hooker Oak Elementary school and SBSH picks them up after school is done and walks them over to their after school program.  The friendship that our kids have started at SBSH are stronger than ever especially with the kids that also attend Hooker Oak.  We feel very fortunate to have a place like SBSH to take care of our two kids especially since we don't have any other family here in Chico.  They have become our second family!

We love Storybook. They love my stepdaughter like she's one of their own. The staff is the best. They always have breakfast ready as soon as we arrive and greet our little one with a calm happy good morning. They are accommodating and kind. If we have an emergency and need to get one of our older kids any last minute care they always try and accommodate if they have the space.
